Cultural Notes

Greetings: There will be a mix of hugs, handshakes, kisses on the cheeks… The beauty and chaos of a multicultural wedding!

Be mindful of the situation, as some people might not use the same greeting as you, so give it an extra second to check for some possible awkwardness and be ready to laugh it off!

Some useful sentences in Italian:

• Ciao (Chee-ah-oh) – Hi / Hello (informal)

• Salve (Sahl-veh) – Hello (formal)

• Benvenuti in Scozia (Ben-veh-noo-tee een Scot-zee-ah) – Welcome to Scotland

• Piacere [di conoscervi] (Pee-ah-cheh-reh dee con-osh-er-vee) – Nice to meet you / a pleasure [to meet you]

• Grazie (Gra-tzee-eh) – Thanks / thank you

• Prego (Preh-go) – You’re welcome

Attire: Some people really doll up for weddings, others go very casual.

For our wedding, wear what you want, from smart casual to very formal, just avoid white please. We want you to be here more than anything, so come in what you are more comfortable with.

Anyone is welcome to try kilts! It is possible to fit them virtually and pick them up before the event. Feel free to contact us for info.

If you want to match the wedding decor somehow, the colours will be dark green (forest/emerald) and bright orange, as in this website.

Attendance: In Scotland different people are invited to different parts of the wedding, and in Italy more people attend the Ceremony than the Reception.

We have invited everyone to the whole day! But if you want/need to take a break or leave early please feel free to do so! If you cannot stay for the whole day just let us know in the RSVP please.

We obviously want to celebrate with our favourite people for the entirety of the day, but we are also aware of the diversity of needs of our guests. Please be reassured that nobody will be judged for taking a break, including the two of us!

Ceremony traditions: The most important part of the entire day! We will be doing a very personalised Ceremony so expect a few surprises, but also a few traditional elements.

One thing we would like to make everyone aware is that at the end of the ceremony we cannot throw rice or confetti, so we will have soap bubbles instead!

Reception traditions: We have some amazing entertainment in mind for the reception, but we will avoid pranks and couple games.

Drinks: We will have welcoming drinks and a bottle of wine per table, then afterwards there will be a cash/card bar.

Note Culturali

Saluti: ci sarà un misto di abbracci, strette di mano, baci sulle guance… Il bel caos di un matrimonio multiculturale!

Tenete a mente la situazione, perchè non tutti useranno il vostro modo di salutare, quindi predete un attimo in più per evitare imbarazzi e siate pronti a riderci su!

Alcune frasi utili in inglese:

Come vestirsi: alcuni si mettono in tiro per un matrimonio, altri vanno molto casual.

Per il nostro matrimonio, indossate quello che volete, dallo smart casual al molto formale, evitate solo il bianco, per favore. La vostra presenza è quello che conta per noi, quindi venite come siete più a vostro agio.

Siete invitati a provare il kilt! È possibile prendere le misure online e ritirarlo prima dell’evento. Sentitevi liberi di contattarci per informazioni al riguardo.

Se volete coordinarvi in qualche modo con i colori del matrimonio, sono verde scuro (foresta/smeraldo) e arancione brillante, come su questo sito.

Partecipazione: in Scozia, persone diverse sono invitate a parti diverse del matrimonio, e in Italia vengono più persone alla Cerimonia che al Ricevimento.

Noi abbiamo invitato tutti per tutta la giornata! Ma se volete/dovete fare una pausa o andarvene prima sentitevi liberi di farlo! Se non potete restare per tutta la giornata semplicemente fatecelo sapere nel RSVP per favore.

Ovviamente vogliamo festeggiare tutto il giorno con le nostre persone preferite, ma siamo anche consapevoli della diversità dei bisogni dei nostri ospiti. Vi assicuriamo che nessuno verrà giudicato per essersi preso una pausa, inclusi noi due!

Tradizioni della Cerimonia: la parte più importante della giornata! Avremo una Cerimonia molto personalizzata, quindi aspettatevi qualche sorpresa, ma anche qualche elemento tradizionale.

Una cosa da ricordare, è che non possiamo fare il lancio del riso o dei coriandoli all’italiana alla fine della cerimonia, quindi avremo le bolle di sapone!

Tradizioni del Ricevimento: abbiamo in mente un intrattenimento straordinario per il Ricevimento, ma eviteremo scherzi e giochi di coppia.

Finiremo con la canzone tradizionale scozzese “(The bonnie banks of) Loch Lomond”, cantata e ballata alla fine di ogni evento.

Bevande: avremo bevande di benvenuto e una bottiglia di vino per tavolo, in seguito ci sarà un cash/card bar.
